I went out to rent some movies over the weekend and saw they had Wii games to rent. I also found out the nice thing about having a game system not many people own yet, there were plenty of games to choose from. So I chose Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2. I've never really played any of these fighting games before, but the fact this was on Wii intrigued me. And I have come to one conclusion, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 might just be the greatest, or at least most fun, fighting game I've played. And I've played a ton of fighting games and they all get old after you've played with every character. (With the exception of Mortal Kombat.) But then I played this one for the Wii. This one would probably get old like others, if it wasn't for the unique game play the Wii provides. The basic actions like punching and basic movement are done like always. And there is still a lot of button mashing to attack fast, mainly the A button on the Wii remote. You also use the analog stick, or the nunchuk to move around. But then you can also move the controllers to manipulate your character to get faster and more powerful. You can quickly dash in a direction or dodge attacks boy moving the nunchuk in different directions. You can also fly up or down by holding a button and moving tine nunchuk up or down. And if you knock someone down you can pursue their flying body with a flick of your wrist. This makes moving your character really fun once you get the hang of it. This works great since you play in huge 3D environments from the show. And yes everything is destroyable from a building downtown to the side of the mountain. Anyway the real fun begins when you want to do super attacks, like Goku's Kamehameha. Simply hold down a button on the remote and nunchuk, and move them towards you body and thrust them away like you are throwing a fireball like they do in the show. And you can charge it up to make it more powerful by holding the buttons longer. All the characters have different attacks like this that you have to do by moving the controllers like the movements in the show. (Well some of them look like that.) This game has tons of game modes, from dueling with a friend to the story mode that goes through all the DBZ sagas and movies. And it sort of plays like an RPG where you level up your characters and give them items to power them up. You can also fly around the world map looking for dragonballs or somewhat random battles.

Now even though this game is awesome there are a few areas that could use improvement. First of all there are lots of areas where the menus are confusing and hard to navigate. And as you play the game you unlock stuff, but you aren't told about it. So you don't know if you've gotten any more characters unless you stumble across them. But the actual game is pretty cool and plays great. If you watch this game, it looks like the battles right out of the show. But one warning, this game is highly addictive. I rented it last Saturday, and started playing it in the afternoon and ended up playing for 7 hours straight in one sitting. My thumb is still recovering from the madness. But that is a sign of a great game in my book!
